ADDENDA AND CORRIGENDA

IN THE TRANSACTIONS FOR THE YEAR 1898.

Page 21. The year 1148 is the date of the foundation of Rufford by Gilbert de Gant.

Page 22, line 4.—For Charles II. read George IV. when Prince Regent. Page 22, line 10.-After Lord Savile read of Eland and Viscount Halifax in 1668, and afterwards Earl of Halifax in 1679 and Marquess

of Halifax in 1682.

Page 22, line 16.-For 1674 read Nov., 1672.

Page 22, line 20.-For Lord Elan read Lord Eland.

Page 22, line 28.—For and to their younger son John, read and to their second son, Richard, who took the additional name of Savile. Page 22, line 31.-After Scarbrough read when his next brother, John, succeeded, according to the terms of Sir George's will, to Rufford in 1807, and to the Earldom in 1832, on the death of his brother, the 6th Earl, without issue. He was the greatgrandfather of the present owner.

Page 24, line 14.-For Lady Talbot in 1590, read Lady Mary Talbot about 1580.

Page 25, line 15.-For claim read clause.

Page 68. 41. 14.-Withes. Perhaps Deering misread withes for wiches

in the text he copied; a very possible mistake since the c might look like a short t. If so, the salt towns such as Nantwich, Northwich, Middlewich are meant.
