To the fourthe, he sayethe that the said beck called Shippcar Beck taketh that name benethe Mr Skott groundes, and so contynuythe through Shippcar bridge which goethe over the sayde beck in the hye waye from Leedes to Wetherbye and Harwood, and ys called North hall Beck besides Northe hall, and further he cannot depose.

To the fourthe, he cannot depose saving that he sayeth that the sayde beck, called Shippcar Beck or North hall Beck, ys called North hall Beck when yt cometh to North hall Bridge and not before, and boundethe in manye places of the west and south syde of the Lordshippe of Leedes. To the fourthe, he sayethe that the heyres and occupiers of the landes layt one Fostardes hayeth ever to hys knoweledge had the fyshynge in the watter called Shippcar Beck and North hall Beck, and payde a rent therefore to the graves of Leedes to the Quenes use and hir awncetores, and that one Richard Boythe and the heires of Roberte Harryson payd the sayd rent at thys daye.

To the ijth, he agreethe with Richard Michell, adding therunto that the heires of Foster haythe ever had the fishing of the beck, called Sheppcar Beck and North hall Beck, from Pate Man Rig, beynge a mylne above Leedes, to the watter of Ayer, and that they dyd lett one parcell of the grounde and also parcel of the fyshyng of the sayd beck to one Peter Bank.

VILLIAM BARKER, of th'age of xlvj years, sworne and

examined, etc., deposeth, to the firste he sayeth that he knoweth one hall called North hall nere Leedes in the possession of the sayde Thomas Falkingham, and that he, being baylye of North Pount' and the Wapentake of Skirake, doth receyve yerelye of Thomas Falkingham ijs. for the suyte of the sheriff turne within the Honor of Pount', and other ijs. vd. ob. for Wapentaike fyne for the Sherif of Yorkeshier, to the rest of the interrogatories he cannot depose.

EVIDENCES BROUGHT IN BY THOMAS FALKYNGHAM.

Inprimis, one dede bearinge date the xxiijt yere Edwardi tercij, declaring that the Manor of Northall and other landes was gyven in tayle and to be holden of the Earle Lacye, Lorde of Pount', as of his honor there.

Another dede dated anno ijdo Henrici iiijti, declaring the saide Manor of Northall to be holden of the Honor of Pomefrett.

Item, one other dede, bearinge date xviijo Edwardi tercii post conquestum Anglie et Francie, Whereby is declared that one Thomas Wate dyd gyve all the lande lying next the ryver called Shippcarr Bek of the west syde with th' appurtenances in Leedes in a certen place called le Ollers to one Roger Leedes, and also a lycencs to buylde a damme to his mylne upon the grounde of the sayde Thomas Wayte of the easte syde.

Item, one other dede indented, bearinge date anno xj° Henrici sexti, whereby it appeareth that one Sir Randall Pygott, knight, dyd lett his manor called Northall with all th' appurtenances, except certen closes and his water mylne, to one William Darleye for the terme of six yeres.

Item, the copy of one Office after the deathe of Randall Pygott, knighte, declaring that the manor of Northall was holden of the Kinge that then was, as of his Honor of Pount', parcel of the Duchie of Lancaster, per fidelitatem et sectam curie de Pount'.

Item, one other Office after the death of Thomas Pygott, declaring that the sayde manor of Northall was holden of the Kinge as of his Honor of Pount' by knyhte servyce, bearing date vt die Augusti, anno iiijto Henrici octavi.

Item, to enquyre whither the manor of North hall nighe adjoynynge to the Quenes manor of Leedes be contributorye with the Quenes sayde manor in paynge of taxes, subsydyes, and other ordinary charges towardes the Quenes Majesties affayers, yea or no,

Item, what tenants of or upon dwelling houses the sayde Mr Falkyngham hath within his sayde manor of Northall or within the Quenes sayde manor of Leedes, and whether he or anye of his auncesters did kepe ever any Court there,

yea or no.

Item, whither the sayde mylne newelye erected by the said Thomas Falkyngham dothe stande upon the olde accustomed course of the sayde ryver or upon a new trenshe newelye made by the sayde Falkingham, yea or no.

Item, whither such burgages of the sayde towne of Ledes, as do paye their Weapontake rentes to the baylyf of the Libertyes, be bounde to the Quenes mylnes of Leedes, yea or no.

Item, whither the sayde Mr Falkyngham hath any other freehold landes within the Quenes sayde manor of Leedes, yea or no.

Item, whither the sayde North hall or the Quenes tenantes of Leedes hathe heretofore bene charged with making and repayrenge a certen bridge nighe adjoynyng to the sayde Northall, now comenlye called Northall Bridge, yea

Gargrave, knighte, and William Malett, esquyer,
on the Quenes Majesties behalf.

1. To the firste interrogatories, we saye that the Manor of North hall nere Leedes hathe payde viijs. at everye tyme when tax was payde by the towne of Leedes with the sayde towneship, tyme oute of mynde. And further that the sayde manor hath payde subsydyes and all other ordynarye charges in the Quenes affayres and her auncesters with the sayde towneshippe in lyke manner.

To the secunde, we saye that the auncesters of the sayde Mr Falkyngham had one burgage which is in Leedes and holden of the manor of Ledes, and solde the same to one Sympson to pay to the Lordes of Northall and theire heires everye yere xijd. And also we saye that one Xpofer Brame and Richarde Brame, John Tutynge and Alexander Benson holdeth certen grounde beynge parcel of the said Northall.

Item, that one Grenegate holdethe one house, beyng parcel of the manor of Northall. And as to anye Courte kepinge we know nothinge.

3. To the iijde, we saye that the sayde mylne, newlye erected and buylded by the sayde Thomas Falkyngham, is still upon a new trenshe and not upon the olde course of the sayde ryver.

4. To the iiijth, we saye that no burgage in Leedes payde ever any Weapentake rent, but a rent called Burgage rent to the Quenes baylie of Leedes, that we knowe of, and ar bounde to the Quenes mylnes there.

5. To the yth, we saye that the sayde Mr Falkyngham hathe no freholde landes within the sayd manor of Leedes.

6. To the sixte, we saye that Christopher Brame, late tennante to the sayde Mr Falkingham at Northe hall, hath repared the said brigg called Northe hall brigges, and sence the sayde Mr Falkingham came to the sayde Northe hall he hath repared the sayde brigges hymselfe.
