4. Mountains, with particular description of such ranges as might afford advantage and convenience for sick or convalescent troops.

6. Canals, morasses; state of drainage.

7. Climate, its physical character and effects; the rains.

8. Soil, its general nature, its elevation above the adjacent

waters.

9. Waters, and their nature, sources of aqueous exhalations, and periods of the year when noxious exhalations arise from the soil in greatest abundance.

10. Extent to which exhalation has proceeded when the exhalations become most deleterious.

11. Unhealthy situations.

12. Vegetable, animal and mineral products; markets.

13. Population, with a description of the dwellings in common use. 14. Clothing, bedding and furniture; fuel; diet.

15. Employments and amusements.

16. Habits of the soldiers.

17. Morals, education and cleanliness; mode of rearing children. 18. Police, state of the poor.

19. Mention of the diseases, with any peculiar modes of cure adopted by the inhabitants. Empirics.

20. Barracks; their condition as to ventilation, situation and date of erection; their form, whether built in square or parallel lines, or detached houses, and whether of wood, brick or stone. 21. Quality of the supply of water, whether from springs, wells, or rivers.

22. Nature of the soil on which they are built, and of that immediately around; their state in regard to cold, exposure to particular winds, and their general aspect.

23. Drainage of the grounds of the barracks.
