24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?

26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not:

27 He it is, who coming after me, is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

t 34 And I saw and bare record, that this is the Son of God. f35 ¶ Again the next day after, John stood, and two of his disciples;

t 36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

ƒ 38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour."

40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. n 41 He first findeth his own bro ther Simon, and saith unto him,

CHAP. III.

HERE was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

14 ¶ And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: t 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, t 16 ¶ For God so loved the world, we know that thou art a teacher that he gave his only begotten Son, come from God: for no man can that whosoever believeth in him, do these miracles that thou doest, should not perish, but have everexcept God be with him. lasting life.

t* 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he

32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.

33 He that hath received his testimony, hath set to his seal that God is true.

34 For he whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the spirit by mea sure unto him.

35 The father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

t 36 He that believeth on the Son, hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth

30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him. f 31 ¶ In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master,

eat.

32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him aught to eat?

d 34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

t 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, may rejoice together.

37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour; other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours,
