Government and the Trustees of the British Museum : 'That in view of the importance of preserving the remains of the various civilisations of this Empire which are fast disappearing, and in order to prevent the loss and dispersion of collections of ancient and modern Anthropology which may be offered to the nation, it is highly desirable to acquire less costly and far more extended storehouse space than can be provided in London.'
