This seems to have been a favourite practice. And declaris, he gatt his fatheris malefoune, and faid he wald mak ane ill end: And declaris, that he wes ordanit to mak his repentance, for the brute and sklander he fuftenit; and that he maid his repentance.

And thaireftir the faid Patrik Lowrie defyrit the Juftice and Affyse to trow1 the faid Mr Dauid Myll.

My Lord Aduocat proteftis for Wilfull Errour, in caice thay acquit him of the Dittay.

VERDICT. Eftir accufation of the faid Patrik, be Dittay, of the crymes refpectiue aboue specifeit, and verificatioun of the famyn, be productioun of certane writtis be the faid Sir Thomas Hammiltoun, aduocat; the Affyfe, all in ane voce, be the mouthe of Johnne Wallace in Lonefe, chanceller, ffand, pronuncet and declairit the faid Patrik to be ffylet, culpabill and convict of the haill crymes respectiue aboue specifeit.

SENTENCE. The said Juftice-depute decernit and ordanit the said Patrik Lowrie to be tane to the Caftell-hill of Edinburgh, and thair to be wirreit at ane ftaik, quhill he be deid; and thaireftir, his body to be brunt in afches; and his haill moveabill guidis and geir, gif he ony hes, to be efcheit, &c.
