ADDRESS.

IN introducing my new Catalogue, I avail myself of the opportunity to express my best thanks to my numerous Correspondents and Nautical Friends, for the kind patronage they have hitherto favoured me with; and for the very valuable and useful information I am constantly receiving from them. The high estimation for correctness in which my publications are held, is chiefly to be attributed to the assistance so received, and I can assure them that I am always ready and happy to receive suggestions that may tend to the improvement of any of my Works.

At the present time many hydrographical surveys are being carried on, not only by our own Government, but by the Governments of Foreign Countries, and it is to be expected that the intelligence and high Nautical talent of the surveyors, together with the employment of instruments of an improved character, will materially add to our acquaintance with many parts of which previously our knowledge was but indifferent. To the rapid advance of hydrographical science I am not indifferent, and as it is my object and desire not to be behind with the times, I flatter myself that for accuracy and extent of information my several publications cannot be surpassed. Almost every survey brings to light now discoveries, and where fresh information renders necessary, improvements are introduced, that the publications may continue to bear the high character for correctness that they have hitherto maintained.

*

*CORRESPONDENTS, in giving orders, are particularly requested to refer to the present, rather than to any former Catalogue; and, in addition, if they write down the number, leading words, and price of each article, it may prevent mistakes.
