It appears generally to have been considered of Lower Coal Measure age, and to have been correlated with the inter-stratified sandstones of the Lower Coal Measures, referred to on other pages of this report. The peculiar conditions of occurrence of this formation have, however, received no satisfactory explanation in print, to the writer's knowledge.
