PREFACE.

The contents of the first two Volumes of the Clapham Register are given in this part.

Vol. I. comprises 69 vellum leaves, unbound, 11 in. by 8 in., rather dilapidated, and contains Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1595-1651.

Vol. II. consists of 67 vellum leaves with vellum backs 12 in. by 8 in., and carries the entries to 1683.

Clapham was a large parish near the borders of Yorkshire and Lancashire, and embraced the Townships of Claphamcum-Newby, Lawkland, and Austwick; the last-named now forms a separate parish.

The Society is indebted to Canon Rawdon Briggs, M.A., the Vicar, for kind permission to transcribe and print the Register.

Wakefield.
