This Index to the Transactions of the Woolhope Naturalists' Field Club is a response to the needs and the expressed desire of its members. Founded in the course of the year 1851, the Club has been in existence nearly sixty-four years. During this period its work has spread over many subjects, and the need of an index that is sufficiently copious and accurate is more than ever apparent.

At the commencement the Transactions appeared rather irregularly; and it is chiefly from the Minute books of the Club and the reports of the Hereford Times that the material of the earlier years has been obtained. By the energy of the late Mr. H. Cecil Moore a volume of Transactions was produced from these sources of information, thus making up the history of the Club from its foundation till 1866. This book was published only at the end of 1897, and it takes its place as the first volume of the Transactions.

Twenty volumes embody the Transactions of the Club to the end of 1911, and the present Index is meant to supply a fairly complete guide to their

contents.

To remedy this, the Rev. Prebendary Havergal brought out an Index of the Transactions from the foundation of the Club to the end of 1882. Mr. W. H. Banks went through the like labour for the period commencing with 1883 and ending with the year 1892. Mr. H. Cecil Moore compiled an Index for 1893 and 1894, and another for 1895, 1896 and 1897. From the last date he commenced the excellent practice of giving an index with each volume as it was issued, a practice that it is very desirable to continue. It must be emphasised that, but for the most laborious
