An elevated spot near Swanland mill commands a view of the Trent and the country adja cent, the whole course of the Humber down to the Spurn Lights, the Lincolnshire and Yorkshire coasts of that river, and the low country of Holderness, as far as the eye can reach, where the distant prospect is bounded by the horizon. The church, which is a Gothic structure, dedicated to St. Mary, claims to be of the age of Prince Offa; the patron is Mrs. Bramley, and the Rev. Matthew Williamson is the vicar. Population 229.
