NOTES ON THE PEDIGREE OF THE CRAVENS OF
APPLETREEWICK.

SINCE the publication of his paper (see p. 441, vol. 13) the following information has come to the knowledge of the writer :

"Theodosia Craven widdow and relict of Sir Anthony Craven late of Lenchwick co. Worcester, kt. and baronet, deceased," by will [dated May 23rd. 1717, proved Oct. 14th. following; P.C.C. 187 Whitfield.] desires burial at discretion of executors; gives pecuniary legacies to daughter Mary Broughton and her three children, Edward, Theodosia, and Mary Broughton; to daughter Hutchinson, £40; to grandchild Hutchinson, £22; to John Pountney, clerk, Rector of Gt. St. Bartholomew Smithfield, £40; and all plate and furniture to Elizabeth, now wife of said John, which Elizabeth is grand-daughter of testatrix. Legacies not payable "until such time as my executors have received all sums of money due to me upon an annuity of £200 per annum left me by the last will and testament of my son William Craven esq. deceased." My executors to be said grandson John Pountney Elizabeth his wife and said Mary Broughton.-[Notes and Queries, 8th S. VII. 94.] Register of Caversham in the county of Oxford.

William Craven entered, 1653 (as an English student),

Heidelberg College. Notes and Queries, 8th S. VIII. 486. This no doubt refers to the William Craven who was afterwards known as Sir William Craven of Winwick.

BRASS AT BURNSALL CHURCH.

ON the north wall of this church is a carved stone monument to the middle portion of which is affixed a brass plate. At the top and bottom are the effigies of an angel and a death's-head, the latter crowned with a laurel wreath, and in the intermediate space is the following inscription:

FFRAUNCIS BURDET of Burthwait in the county of Yorke Esquier Departed this mortall life the vith, day of March. 1636. at Burthwait and was interred at Hoyland the 7th day of March aforesaid. This frauncis maried to his first wife Katherin Da: of Boughton Lawson in the county of Warwick Esquier by whom he had yssue two daughters (vizt) Elizabeth first maried to Sir Symon Norwich of Brampton in the

county of Leicester Knight and after to Sir Henry Hart of Lullingston in the county of Kent Knight of the honourable Order of the Bath and Isabella who died young. He was 2ndly maried to Jane Da: of Ranulph Barton of Smithills in the county of Lancaster Esqz: by whom he had yssue two sonnes and one Da: living at the tyme of his death (vizt:) frauncis Burdet Esqz: his eldest sonne and heire Aymer Burdet his 2a sonne and frauncis his Da: This Certificate was taken the 3rd of July. 1637. at Rackley in the county of Yorke aforesaid by John Newton Gent. Godfrey Copley of Sprotburgh in the county of Yorke Esquier Departed this mortall life at Sprotburgh aforesaid the Eighteenth day of November Anuo Dñi. 1635. and was interred the Nynteenth day of the same moneth within the parrish church of the said Sprotburgh in his owne seate or Quier there. He was neuer maried. This Certificate was taken at Sprotburgh aforesaid the Twentith day of July Anno Dñi. 1638. by John Newton Gent: Deputy to the Office of Armes and testified by Mr. William Copley Esquier Cozen and heire to the defunct before written. John Gascoigne of Brambowe in the county of Yorke Barronet of the Kingdome of Scotland and first of the English Nation of that Order Departed this mortall life the 3d. of May. 1637. at Pailington and was interred the next day following in a Quier within the parrish church of Barwick in Elmett in the said county which quier standeth on the North side of the said church. He maried Anne Da: to John Inglebie of Rudby in the county of Yorke Esqz: by whom he had yssue 4 sonnes and 6 daughters (vizt:) Thomas Gascoigne Barronett eldest sonne and heire who married Anne Da: to John Symmons of Baldwin Brightwell in the county of Oxford Esqz: John Michaell, francis, Elioner, married to Gilbert Stapleton of Carleton in the county of Yorke Esqz: Mary maried to William Hougton of Parkeball in the county of Lancaster Gent: Anne maried to George Thwinge of Heworth in the county of Yorke Katherin Christian Margaret, sance yssue. This Certificate was taken at Holbeck Woodhouse the xiijth of July. 1638. by John Newton Gent: Deputy to the Office of Armes and testified by Sir Thomas Gascoigne Barronet eldest sonne and heire to the defunct. William Wentworth of South Kirkby in the county of Yorke Gent: Departed this mortall life at Kirkby aforesaid the 22th day of January. 1636. and was interred within the parrish church in his owne Quier there the 23th day of said moneth aforesaid. He maried Margery Da: to Mr. Hales by whom he had yssue Thomas his eldest sonne and heire who maried Isabell Da: to John Marshall of Woodlesworth in the county of Yorke Gent: William who maried Elizabeth Da: to Mr. Marriot of Bawtry Hugh died young Richard who maried Anne Da: to Henry Holgate of Grimethorp in the county of Yorke Michaell maried Elizabeth Birket of Newark in the county of Nott: Elizabeth maried to Thomas Hornecastle of Acworth in the county of Yorke, Anne mar to John Raney of Coodworth in the county of Yorke Vrsula died young. This Certificate was taken at Rotherham the 7th day of August. 1638. by John Newton Gent: Deputy to the Office of Armes and testified by Mr. Thomas Wentworth eldest sonne and heire to the defunct.

THOMAS WENTWORTH.

Mr. John Moore of Albrough in the county of Yorke Departed this mortall life at his house at Alborough the Seaventeenth day of October Anno Dñi. 1637. and was interred in the parrish church of Albrough aforesaid. He maried Suzan the daughter of John Steward of Marham in the county of Norfolk by whom he lefte no yssue at the tyme of his decease. The Executrix of his last will and Testament was Suzan aforesaid to the defunct. This Certificate was taken by Thomas Thompson Lancaster herauld and is testified to be true by the subscription of ffrauncis Steward brother to the said Suzan.

Garuas Eyre of Laughton in the county of Yorke Esquier Departed this mortall life at Laughton aforesaid the xxviith day of October. 1625. and was interred the next day following within the said Ile of the Quier of the parrish church of the said Laughton. He maried Mary Da: to George Neuill of Grone in the county of Nottingham Esqz: by whom he had yssue one sonne and 3 daughters (vizt) Anthony Eyre only sonne and heire who maried two wiues Anne Da: to John Markham of Sidebrooke in the county of Lincolne Esqz: 2dly Mary Da: to Herey Neuill of Grone in the county of Nott: Esqz: widdow of John Babington of Rampton Elizabeth maried to Thomas Ricard of Hatfeild in the county of Yorke Esqz: Barbara maried to John ffrecheuile of Haselborough in the county of Derby Gent: and Jane maried to Sr Hardolph Wastheneys of Heidon in the county of Nottingham Barronett. This Certificate was taken at Rampton in the county of Nott: the xviiith day of Aprill. 1640. by John Newton Gent Deputy to the Office of Armes and testified by Anthony Eyre Esqz: sonne and heire to the defunct.

Richard Bell of the Citty of Yorke Gent: and Councellor at Lawe Departed this mortall life at Yorke aforesaid the viith day of October. 1639. and was interred the ixth day of the same moneth within the Chauncell of the parrish church of St Cuthbert within the walls of the said Citty. He maried two wiues first Anne the Da: of John Atkinson of the Citty of Yorke Gent: by whom he had no yssue 2dly Katherin Da: to Edward Greaues of Shenley parke in the county of Hereford Esqz : widdow of John Paylor of the Citty of Yorke Gent: by whom he had no yssue. This Certificate was taken at Yorke the xiiiith day of february Anno Dãi. 1639. by John Newton Gent: Deputy to the Office of Armes and testified by Mris Katherin Bell late wife and sole Executrix to the defunct. Alexander Rookby of Kirke Sandall in the county of Yorke Gent: Departed this mortall life the Sixt day of May Anno Dõi 1635 at Sandall aforesaid and was interred the daye following in a Quier belonging to his house within the Chauncell of the parrish church of the said Sandall. He maried Suzan daughter to Garuas Bosuile of Warmsworth in the county of Yorke Gent: by whom he had yssue two sonnes (vizt.) William eldest sonne and heire, and Alexander. This Certificate was taken at Eslington in the county of Yorke the Twentith day of July Anno Dni. 1638. by John Newton Gent: Deputy to the Office of Armes, and testified by Mris Suzan Rookby late wife and Administratrix to the defunct. Henry Neuile of Cheuit in the parrish of Kinston and county of Yorke Esquier Departed this mortall life at Cheuit aforesaid the xxith day of March. 1634. and was interred the next day following within the Chauncell of the parrish church of the said Kinston. He maried Ellen Da and coheire to Hersy Sandford of Thorp Salving in the county of Yorke Esquier by whom he had yssue 4 sonnes and 3 daughters (viz1.) francis Neuile eldest sonne and heire, who maried two wiues first Rosamond Da to Serill Arthington of Arthington in the county of Yorke Esqz 2aly Anne Da: to Thomas Tancred of Brampton in the county of Yorke Esqz: Garuas Neuile 2d. sonne mar: Barbara Da: to Bullock of Vnston in the county of Derby Roger Neuile 34. sonne Hersy Neuile. 4. sonne, Margarett maried to John Rodes Esqz: eldest sonne to Sir John Rodes of Balbrough in the county of Derby Knight Mary mar: to Raph Arthington of Milne-Thorp in the county of Yorke Gent: Sara maried to Edward fenwick Gent: sonne and heire apparant to William fenwick of Stanton in the county of Northumberland Esqz: This Certificate was taken at Westminster the xiiith, day of May. 1640. by John Newton Gent: Deputy to the Office of Armes and testified by Mr Francis Neuile Esqz: eldest sonne and heire vnto the defunct.

FRANCIS NEUILE

Nicholas Waller of Sykehouse in the county of Yorke Gent: sonne and heire of William Waller sometymes Maior of Beuerly in the county aforesaid Departed this mortall life at his house in Beuerly on the xxvith of September in the year. 1634. He maried Elizabeth the daughter of William Parkinson of Beuerly in the county aforesaid, by whom he had yssue v. sonnes and two daughters (viz.) Edward Waller of Sykehouse sonne and heire, Thomas Waller of Greys Inn 24. sonne William Waller 3d. sonne John Waller 4th sonne Nicholas 5t. sonne Elizabeth and Anne. The said Nicholas Waller the defunct was buried in the body of the Minster at Beuerly on Saturday the xxviith of September next ensuing the day of his decease. 1634. This Certificate was taken by Thomas Thompson Esquier Lancaster herauld and is testified to be true by the subscription of Edward Waller now of Sykehouse in the county of Yorke sonne and heire of the defunct and Thomas Waller of Greys Inn aforesaid 2a. sonne.

Rowland Moorewood of Alferton in the county of Derbie gentleman Collonell of a Regiment of horse for that county eldest sonne and heire of Anthony Moorewood of Alferton aforesayd second sonne of Rowland Moorewood of Okes in the County of Yorke Gent: and of Catherine his wife one of the daughters and coheires of Humfrie Safford of Eayme in the said County of Derbie Esq', departed this mortall life att his lodginge in Black friers London on Sunday the five and Twentieth day of Aprill 1647. He died a Bachelor and left his onelie brother and heire Anthony Moorewood of Alferton and Hasleborough in the said County to succeed him. This said Antonie married Mary daughter of Roger Bretridge by whome he hath yssue ffrances his onlie daughter. The truth of this certificate is attested by the subscription of the said Anthonie Moorewood brother and heire to the defunct. ANTHONY MOOREWOOD.
